Hermosa Surf Camp Information and History
The Hermosa Surf Camp in California was started in 1992 by the City of Hermosa Beach, The Easy Reader Newspaper, Chevron and local Surf Shops. It is our most popular summer program. For boys and girls ages 7-17. You will learn ocean safety, basic surfing techniques and tricks like the switch-foot, coffin and nose ride. Find out about ocean conditions, sea life and the beach environment. Learn about the best equipment, safe places for you to practice, and travel to exotic beaches. Discover surfings mysterious etiquette.
We will be in the water with you helping you handle the board, paddle out and catch waves. There is a L.A County Lifeguard present at all times.
Classes have a 1:4 teacher-to-student ratio or less for safety and plenty of one-on-one attention. You will practice on a BZ soft surfboard for fun and safety. We have over 40 surfboards from 5′ to 11′ for you to try. Body boards are also available for rough conditions.
We give you a T-shirt, rash guard (lycra surfing shirt) three photos of you to keep! Meet other people to surf and travel with.
There is always an instructor on duty that is a Lifeguard and California Credentialed Teacher. We are teachers from the local school. There is always a L.A. County Lifeguard on duty. All paid instructors are experienced adult surfers. Administered by The City of Hermosa Beach Community Resources Department.
We often let students with special needs attend the camp if they can swim and have a mild condition. We are professional educators that work in the local schools. We have many years of teaching experience with people who have special needs. A guardian may have to be present for the entire duration of the camp.
Please contact Vince Ray prior to registering at 310-291-4378
